2014 Roster2014 ScheduleANNVILLE, Pa. - A promising freshman class and six returning starters will work together as Lebanon Valley College starts its 2014 campaign this weekend.
The Dutchmen (11-8-4 in 2013) are coming off a solid 2013 season that saw them advance to the ECAC South Championship final. Now, head coach
Charlie Grimes will try to keep the momentum going when they take on Whitman and Randolph-Macon Friday and Saturday at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. LVC's home opener comes Sept. 7 against either Wesley or Gwynedd-Mercy as part of a joint tournament with Franklin & Marshall.
The squad will be lead by four seniors, with forwards
Kevin Doty,
Jordann Ferguson, and
Connor McDonald up front and defender
Kyle Fronk - a 2013 all-conference pick - anchoring the backline. The quartet combined for six goals a year ago; Doty and Ferguson had a pair each, while McDonald and Fronk found net once. They will each look to play an expanded role in 2014 as they lead a program that
welcomes nine freshmen and a transfer.
At forward, LVC will have that trio of seniors along with returners
Ian McGinnis and
Curtis Washburn. As a freshman, McGinnis appeared in 18 games and scored three goals off the bench, two of them game-winners; Washburn handed out a pair of assists in 10 appearances last season. Freshmen
Tyler Skye,
Austin Freeman, and
Ethan Abdalla will join the program along with transfer junior
Brian Lowe, who scored eight goals over the past two seasons at Elmira.
The midfield will be held down by returning starters
Alex Detweiler,
Joe Gallagher, and
Jake Herron. Detwiler started 12 times as a freshman and scored once with an assist; Gallagher was selected in all 23 games and scored once as a defensive-minded midfielder. Herron also scored a goal in 21 starts. They're joined by
Gabe Stasyszyn, who ended his rookie campaign strongly with three goals and an assist, as well as junior
Bradley Mehl, sophomore
Jon Kok, and freshmen
Matt Prince and
Travers Mutton. Mehl started three times in seven appearances in 2013, while Kok was a key bench contributor in 18 games.
The backline returns only one starter in Fronk, but has plenty of experience to step into new roles. Junior
Cody Manmiller scored a goal in 22 games last year, while sophomores
Ryan Peugh and
John McHale each saw significant time as rookie substitutes. Freshmen
Nate Gibbons,
David Brooks, and
Ari Gouskos will add depth at the back.
In goal, LVC has to replace graduated starter
James Clements '13, and Grimes has four options between the pipes, though none with game experience. Junior
Matt Blanke, sophomores
Brad Wood and
Kyle Miller, and freshman
Cam Avery will all be in the mix for the starting job.
