Second-Half Spurt Sparks Women’s Lax to Victory

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team used five straight goals midway through the second half to seal a 12-9 victory over Scranton on Monday afternoon.

After a back-and-forth opening few minutes, a three-goal spurt with scores from juniors Anna Pagels and Bailey Benz, and senior Taylor Kruter, opened up a 5-2 lead with 16:49 to play in the half.

The Royals battled back to tie the game at 7-7 early in the second half, but that's when the Dutchmen made their move. Two goals from senior Mel Modrick and one apiece from Benz, sophomore Sam Boyce, and junior Jenny Simensky took over the lead for good at 12-7.

LVC allowed a pair of late goals, but was able to work the clock in the final moments, coming away with the 12-9 victory.

Boyce led the Dutchmen attack with three goals and an assist, while Benz posted two goals and two assists and Simensky added a goal and three assists. Modrick and Pagels also chipped in with four goals and an assist between the two of them.

Sophomore Shelby Morris picked up her fourth win of the season between the pipes, making 11 saves and allowing nine goals on 27 Scranton shots. Scranton's Emily Towey suffered the loss, making eight saves. Additionally, the Royals' Emily Goss posted three goals for the Scranton offensive unit.

The Royals led in shots, 27-25, but the Valley held the edge in ground balls, 22-21, and draw controls, 14-9. Each team converted on four free-position goals, respectively.

Next up for LVC is a return home on Wednesday for a battle with Susquehanna at 4 p.m.
