LVC Falls To Albright At the Buzzer

READING, Pa. – Albright's Kelecia Harris converted a layup as time expired to give the hometown Lions a 75-73 victory over Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon.

LVC junior Bridget Rothert knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the score at 73-73 with 11 seconds left to play but Harris, the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, grabbed a rebound off a
missed Jane Joyce jumper and laid it in at the buzzer to hand the Flying Dutchmen their second loss of the season.

Rothert poured in a game-high 27 points and pulled in a team-high eight rebounds.  Lexie Lantz netted 14 on 7-9 shooting from the field and junior Taylor Umbrell scored 12 points and corralled seven boards.

Albright outrebounded the Dutchmen 51-36 and earned the win despite shooting just 57 percent from the charity stripe and committing 21 turnovers.  The Lions scored 32 points in the paint compared to just 20 for Lebanon Valley.  LVC led for over 25 minutes on the afternoon and held a 15-point advantage midway through the first half but it wasn't enough.

The Dutchmen opened the game with a 10-2 run and took their largest lead of the contest at 25-10 with 11:08 remaining in the first half.

The home team drew even at 40-40 at the 2:22 mark but a Rothert free throw and Umbrell jump shot gave LVC a 43-40 edge heading into halftime.

Lebanon Valley continued to lead after the break until Albright took its first lead of the contest at 50-48 with 13:48 left to play.  A Kaitlyn Van Tash jumper and Alyssa Cirucci three-pointer put the Dutchmen back in front but the Lions answered with a crucial 12-1 run that put them ahead 62-54 with 7:30 remaining.

The Blue and White clawed back and erased the deficit when Lantz laid one in to make it 67-67 with 3:31 left to play.  Joyce knocked down a jump shot with 57 seconds remaining to make it 73-69 Albright but four-straight Rothert points set up the thrilling finish that ended with LVC dropping its second league outing in heartbreaking fashion.

Cirucci scored eight points while she and junior Peyton Carper were the team's assists leaders with four apiece.

The last second defeat dropped Lebanon Valley to 6-2 on the year and 1-2 in Commonwealth play.  The Dutchmen get a week off before returning to action when they travel to Neumann on Monday night, Dec. 15.
