DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - A late comeback wasn't in the cards as Lebanon Valley fell to Delaware Valley 78-71 despite a 29-point game from
Kevin Agnew and
Andy Orr's double-double.
The Dutchmen (3-2) had an off shooting night compared to their recent form at 39.7 percent, but hung tough until the end as they rallied back from down double digits to trail by six in the final minute before the Aggies (3-2) put it away at the line.
Kevin Agnew drained a game-high 29 points and
Andy Orr notched his second career double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds (including nine offensive), but LVC couldn't answer the balanced offense of Del Val, led by Chris Moran's 19 and Barry Brockington's 14. The Aggies, who shot 40.3 percent overall, sank six three-pointers and went 22-of-32 at the line to set the edge in the win.
Zach Mrozek pitched in nine points, and
Will Boccanfuso had four points and six boards in 25 minutes off the bench. Agnew also added six rebounds and four assists, and
Kyler Burke had six boards with two points.Â
Lebanon Valley led early before a 10-0 run by the hosts gave the Aggies the lead late in the first half, and LVC never recovered to trail 44-34 at the half. Every second-half run by LVC was answered by the Aggies, but the visitors managed to chip away and turned a 70-57 deficit into a 72-66 game late in the half. A pair of Orr layups around two Agnew free throws started the comeback, and Orr dropped in another bucket with a later free throw as part of a 9-2 run to make it a two-basket game with 2:09 left.
The Aggies made the most of their free throws, however, as LVC was forced to foul and Zach Sibel and Brockington sank freebies before an Agnew jumper made it 75-69 with a minute to go. Three foul shots by Del Val re-established their cushion, and LVC didn't manage another field goal as
Collin Moore's free throws with 23 seconds remaining were the final points.
The Dutchmen will get a brief break for Thanksgiving before diving into Commonwealth Conference play at Messiah on Saturday.
