GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Lebanon Valley pulled away from Gwynedd Mercy in the second half en route to an 84-63 victory over the hosts in the championship game of Gwynedd Mercy's season-opening tip-off tournament. LVC junior
Bridget Rothert was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and fellow junior
Taylor Umbrell was named to the all-tournament team.
Rothert recorded her second double-double in as many days by pouring in a game-high 23 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Junior
Peyton Carper also racked up double-double numbers with 14 points and a game-high 11 boards. Umbrell, junior
Alyssa Cirucci and freshman
Kaitlyn Van Tash also reached the double-digit scoring mark.
The Flying Dutchmen grabbed their first double-digit lead of the game when
Cara Breslin knocked down a jumper in the paint to put them up 18-8 with 12:06 left in the first half.
After the home team cut it to 20-14, the Blue and White used a 9-0 run over a two-minute span to give themselves some breathing room before taking a 36-26 advantage into halftime.
Van Tash scored six of her 11 points early in the second half and helped extend the Dutchmen lead to 48-35 after she converted an offensive rebound into a layup with 15:29 remaining.

Lauren Derby jump shot at the 11:44 mark put Lebanon Valley by 20-plus at 58-37. Gwynedd Mercy would draw no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Rothert added four assists and two steals to go along with her double-double. Umbrell netted 14 points and Cirucci added ten. Senior
Rachel Kelly dished-out a team-high five assists while Umbrell, Carper, and sophomore
Hilary Yoh swiped two steals each.
The Dutchmen's victories over Gwynedd Mercy on Sunday and Haverford the day before improved them to 2-0 on the young season. Lebanon Valley will next be in action when they host Misericordia in the team's 2014-15 home opener on Wednesday night, Nov. 19. Tip-off at Sorrentino Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
