ANNVILLE, Pa. - A blocked kick in the closing seconds denied Lebanon Valley a chance at overtime as Albright held on to win 17-14 in the 94th playing of the rivalry.

The Dutchmen (3-7) drove to the Albright 10 yardline but Malik Gilmore blocked Matt Smoluk's 28-yard field goal bid with 34 seconds left in the game.

Brendon Irving ran for 177 yards and a touchdown to close the season with 1,255 yards, the second-most ever in a season; Tyler George caught LVC's other touchdown to finish with 12 for the second, also second-most by a Dutchman. LVC played turnover-free football but Albright's defense limited them to 260 yards; the Dutchmen defense was just as tough led by Andrew Livingston's 12 tackles and two hurries and a key Zach Wierman interception.

"We played four quarters, had the opportunities to win the football game and didn't do it," said head coach Jim Monos. "It didn't come down to one play, it never does in football, it comes down to the team game."

On a cold day, LVC pinned its offensive hopes on the run game and produced 154 yards overall, led by Irving's big day.

"Up front we did some nice things with the football," Monos said. "We were ready to play, but they executed better early in the game. We played from behind the whole game, and that's a tough way to play."

Albright scored on their opening possession with Roemello Monroe's three-yard run, but George caught a nine-yard fade midway through the second quarter to knot the game 7-7. Dan Sobolewski's 33-yard field goal put them up 10-7 late in the half, and Kevin O'Connell blocked another Sobolewski attempt at the buzzer to keep it there.

Monroe added his second touchdown on the third quarter's opening drive, a three-yard run to cap a griding drive, but LVC answered back with one of their own capped by Irving's three-yard tote to make it 17-14.

Albright looked to add three more points with a long field guy try early in the fourth quarter, but a botched hold ended with Sobolewski trying to convert a pass. His try went right to Wierman to stop the drive. LVC couldn't make anything of the possession, and after trading punts with Albright, took over at its own 26 with 7:42 to go. LVC marched downfield and got a key Darryl Sweeper fourth-down conversion to move into the red zone, but stalled at the 10 with 39 seconds left. Facing 4th and 7, Smoluk's field goal attempt from 28 yards was blocked and recovered by the Lions to all but end the game.

Brian Murphy was 10-of-18 for 106 yards and a touchdown, while Pat Wise was 16-for-28 for 182 yards. LVC did not record a sack but had constant pressure on Wise, recording eight hurries.
