WASHINGTON, D.C. – Lebanon Valley ended the 2014 regular season by splitting a pair of matches with Gallaudet and Scranton at a tri-meet hosted by the Bison on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Flying Dutchmen dropped their first outing to the home team in a hard-fought, five-set contest by set scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-27, and 12-15. LVC rebounded nicely with a 3-0 sweep of Scranton by set scores 25-17, 25-19, and 25-12.
Senior captain
Kayla Confer had a big offensive outing against the Bison to begin the day, racking up a team-high 17 kills. Sophomores
Taylor Troutman and
Greta Weidemoyer were also stout as they recorded 15 and 13 kills, respectively. The trio accounted for 45 of the team's 62 total kills.
Junior libero
Allie Garrett led the way defensively with a match-high 29 digs while sophomore
Morgan Webb added 16 of her own. Senior captain
Kacey Musselman reached the double-digit dig mark with ten to go along with her season-high 55 assists while Troutman and junior
Emily Sides pitched in with eight each. Junior
Alli Quirk recorded the team's lone solo block of the match.
The Dutchmen's strong play against Gallaudet carried over into their season finale against Scranton as LVC made quick work of the Royals come the afternoon.
This time it was Weidemoyer leading the way offensively as she hammered home a match-high 11 kills while Confer and Quirk added seven tallies apiece.
Garrett racked up a match-high dig total for the second-straight match as no player topped her 12 dig output. Sophomore
Kayla Miller dug out seven Scranton attacks, as did Musselman to go along with her 29 assists. Weidemoyer accounted for LVC's only solo block of the contest.
As a team, the Dutchmen recorded 13 service aces against the Royals. Sophomore
Allison Cable racked up four of them while Musselman and Miller added three each.
With the Saturday split, Lebanon Valley ended their regular season with a record of 26-6. The Dutchmen will have a few days off to enjoy another successful campaign before shifting their focus to the 2014 Commonwealth Conference postseason tournament. They are the tourney's #2 seed and will host #3-seeded Messiah in semifinal action on Wednesday night, Nov. 5 at Sorrentino Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
