Football Rolls Over FDU-Florham, 63-21

MADISON, N.J. - Lebanon Valley scored 28 unanswered points to end the game as the Dutchmen earned a 63-21 win on the road against FDU-Florham to extend its winning streak to three games.

The Dutchmen (3-5, 3-4 MAC) broke open a tight 21-14 game at the half with 42 points in the second to keep the Devils (0-8, 0-7 MAC) winless.

Brendon Irving notched his third straight 100+ yard game, rushing for 165 yards and two touchdowns while freshman Jon Jones added a pair of fourth-quarter scored. In th eair, Tyler George caught two touchdowns while Darryl Sweeper and Travis Saylor had one each to produce a four-touchdown day for Brian Murphy. Tyler Laudeman added a 25-yard pick-six in the second half.

Defensively, DJ Johnson and Trevor St. Clair had first-half interceptions, and Adam Soltys pounced on a fumble caused by Connor Pierce's hit. Laudeman and Kevin Antol had second-half picks as LVC was +4 for the game in the rain. Andrew Livingston had two sacks off the edge, and Alex Beamesderfer had a sack and a forced fumble.

The game was scoreless until late in the first quarter when Murphy found Saylor for the sophomore's first career touchdown, a 21-yard strike, but the Devils answered with a grinding drive to tie the game on Tyler Maurer's pass to Ognibene. Irving broke loose on the next possession to score from 34 yards out, but later in the quarter, the Devils blocked an LVC punt inside the Dutchmen red zone, and two plays later Ognibene ran in to tie it at 14-14.

An improbable scoring drive put the Dutchmen back up before the half. Taking over with only 47 seconds left but all three timeouts remaining, Lebanon Valley to advantage of three Devil penalties - two pass interference flags and an unsportsmanlike conduct foul - to move from their own 38 to the FDU-Florham 14. That gave Murphy two shots at the end zone, and he connected with George with no time remaining to take a 21-14 lead.

Murphy hit George to start the third quarter, then after the defense forced a Devils punt, found Sweeper from 30 yards out to blow the game open at 35-14. Maurer scored FDU's final touchdown on the next drive, but the Dutchmen put the final 28 points on the board starting with Irving's five-yard tote to end the third quarter.

Laudeman's 25-yard interception return for a touchdown opened the fourth, and Jon Jones scored twice late, first from eight yards out and then again from the goal line after a botched Devils punt gave LVC the ball inside the FDU red zone.

LVC visits Lycoming Nov. 8 before returning to Arnold Field Nov. 15 to end the season against Albright.
