ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's volleyball team defeated Central Penn and fell to Franklin & Marshall in two three-set matches on Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Flying Dutchman Tournament.
In the first match of the day, the Valley took care of Central Penn easily with scores of 25-11, 25-5, and 25-12. Senior
Courtney Escudero led the way offensively with nine kills, while freshman
Taylor Troutman added eight kills and senior
Jess Finlayson posted six kills.
Sophomore
Emily Sides recorded 31 assists to go along with her four digs, two service aces, and one solo block. Defensively, freshman
Rachel Moltz and sophomore
Allie Garrett were effective with 15 and 14 digs, respectively. Freshman
Morgan Webb also posted three service aces for the Dutchmen.
The second matchup of the day was a challenge as the Valley took on an undefeated Franklin & Marshall squad. Although the team improved in each set, they could not put away the Diplomats falling in three, 25-19, 25-22, and 25-23.
Franklin & Marshall had two players with double-digit kills as Julie Harvey and Ellie Ezekiel tallied 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Caroline Hubbard posted 39 assists and Alyssa Sanchez picked up 16 digs.
For LVC, freshman
Greta Weidemoyer led the way offensively with 11 kills and Troutman added seven kills. Junior
Kacey Musselman recorded a double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs, while Finlayson also added 16 digs defensively.
Following the match, Musselman was named the All-Tournament Team.
LVC travels to Grantham, Pa. on Tuesday to take on Messiah in a Commonwealth Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
