ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior Kayla Confer posted 14 kills to lead the Lebanon Valley College volleyball team to a straight set win in its conference opener over Alvernia on Wednesday evening.
The Dutchmen won a tough first set, 25-21, and then cruised to 25-16 and 25-9 set victories in the second and third stanzas. Confer's 14 kills led all attackers, while freshman Greta Weidemoyer added seven kills of her own. Additionally, Confer hit at an impressive .571 percentage.
Junior Kacey Musselman controlled the match with 26 assists, while her and senior Jess Finlayson were effective defensively with seven digs apiece. Sophomore Emily Sides, senior Sarah Godfrey, and freshman Morgan Webb each tallied two aces from the service line.
For the Crusaders, Liz Newman and Brittany Lantz each posted six kills apiece, while Jamie Morris led the passing with 18 assists. Toni Maurer was tops in digs and service aces with eight and two, respectively.
LVC will host the Dutchman Invitational this weekend on Friday and Saturday. The Valley will take on York (Pa.) and Penn State Altoona at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, and then match up with Central Penn and Franklin & Marshall at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
