CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior
Garth Stefan beat the DeSales goalkeeper inside the near post six minutes into extra time to seal a 1-0 win for Lebanon Valley men's soccer on Saturday afternoon.
Working to the left of goal, Stefan beat two defenders and was able to corner a shot inside the near post and underneath the crossbar for the winning tally. The reward for Stefan's winner? A spot on the bottom of a massive heap of LVC players rushing the field in excitement. The goal was Stefan's third of the season.
The Valley dominated the majority of the contest as the defense was stout, forcing senior goalkeeper
James Clements into just one save on the day. Clements picked up his sixth shutout of the year.
LVC held a 22-8 edge in shots and worked four corner-kick opportunities, compared to three for the Bulldogs. Additionally, the Dutchmen did not allow a shot in overtime and gave up just three in the second half of regulation.
Junior
Kevin Doty led the way offensively with five shots on the afternoon, while sophomore
Joe Gallagher and freshman
Josh Ferguson each tallied four shots.
With the win, the Valley moves to 6-2-2 overall and DeSales falls to 5-5.
