ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's soccer team used three goals from three different players to down Eastern on Saturday morning at Herbert Field, 3-0.
The Dutchmen dominated the game from the beginning, holding a 21-7 edge in shots. Senior goalkeeper
Becca Sykes picked up her fourth shutout of the year, making three saves.
The Valley got on the board in the 23rd minute when senior
Lindi Crist found some space from about 25 yards out and let it rip. A beautiful curling shot sailed over the goalkeeper and found the top right corner of the net for the 1-0 advantage.
Just six minutes later, junior
Amanda Douglass was working in the box and got tripped up by an Eastern defender, warranting a penalty shot. Senior
Heather Tran stepped in for the opportunity and buried the PK for a goal on her 21st birthday to give the Valley the 2-0 lead, an advantage they would hold into the halftime break.
Coming out in the second half, it was more of the same for LVC. The third goal for the Dutchmen was a gorgeous connection between Douglass, freshman
Sammy Bost, and senior
Sarah Dowhower.
Douglass curled in a cross from the left side that was corralled by Bost, who then flicked it on to a wide open Dowhower, who buried it in the right side for the 3-0 edge at the 54' mark. That is where the scoreline would remain until the final whistle.
Douglass and Tran led the side offensively with five shots apiece, while senior
Katie Deardorff added three. The win moves LVC's record to 4-2-2 on the year.
Next up for the Dutchmen is a meeting with Haverford at Herbert Field on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
