Lebanon Valley College 3, Wilkes University 0
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's soccer team sent Wilkes to just its second loss of the 2013 season with a 3-0 victory at Herbert Field on Saturday afternoon.
It didn't take long for the Dutchmen to get on the board as just nine minutes into the contest, freshman
Josh Ferguson made a run down the right side of the field. Ferguson's cross found the foot of senior
Garth Stefan, who buried the shot in close to give the Valley an early 1-0 advantage.
Just 14 minutes later, a beautiful connection between Ferguson, Stefan, and sophomore
Joe Gallagher resulted in the second goal of the contest. Stefan streaked down the left side and sent a cross in toward Ferguson. The freshman flicked the ball on to Gallagher across the box, who sent the ball into the back right corner for the finish.
LVC's 2-0 lead would hold into the halftime break and the Dutchmen picked up right where they left off coming out in the second half.
In the 50th minute, junior
Kevin Doty found sophomore
Cam Alexander at the top of the 18, who curled a shot across the goal front and into the far corner for the 3-0 lead. The defensive unit would hold its ground for the final 40 minutes to move LVC to 5-1-2 on the year.
Stefan led the side with three shots offensively, while Alexander and sophomore
Curtis Washburn tallied two shots apiece. Additionally, Doty, Gallagher, Ferguson, and senior
Jim Fisher each recorded a shot for LVC.
The Valley held the edge in shots as a team, 11-6, and corner-kick opportunities, 6-5. Senior goalkeeper
James Clements picked up his fifth clean sheet on the year, making two saves in 77 minutes of action.
Next up for the Dutchmen is a trip to Dallas on Wednesday to take on Misericordia at 7 p.m.
