Volleyball Rallies to Stay Undefeated in Conference Play

Box Score Volleyball
Lebanon Valley College 3, Widener University 1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-23)

CHESTER, Pa. – After dropping the opening set, Lebanon Valley regrouped and finished off Widener in four sets on Wednesday evening, 3-1.

The Dutchmen struggled to get into the match from the get-go, dropping the opening set, 17-25. However, the team came out in the second with a renewed energy and took the second and third easily, 25-16 and 25-19, respectively. In the fourth, the Valley dug deep, able to pull out the victory in the end, 25-23.

"It wasn't the prettiest match, but a win is a win," head coach Wayne Perry said. "We were working through a lot of different looks through the first two sets. We finally found one that worked in the third and stuck with that group to carry us to the victory."

The Valley were excellent from the service line as freshman Rachel Moltz and sophomore Emily Sides posted four aces apiece, while freshman Morgan Webb and classmate Greta Weidemoyer tallied two aces each.

Offensively, Weidemoyer put away 16 kills and junior Kayla Confer recorded 11 kills on the night. Additionally, sophomore Alli Quirk saw her first action of the year in sets two, three, and four, tallying six kills. At the net, the Dutchmen made it difficult for the Widener attackers, posting five blocks.

Next up for the Valley is a trip to Bridgewater, Va. for the Bridgewater Quad on Friday and Saturday, taking on Frostburg State, Neumann, and Bridgewater College.
