Fisher Scores Late to Salvage Tie for Men’s Soccer

Box Score Men's Soccer
Lebanon Valley College 1, Susquehanna University 1 (2OT)

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior Jim Fisher knocked a rebound into the back of the net in the 67th minute and the Lebanon Valley men's soccer team salvaged a 1-1 tie in Selinsgrove on Wednesday evening against Susquehanna.

Just 16 minutes into the contest, an LVC foul just outside the 18 set up a free kick for Susquehanna from about 25 yards out. Andrew Murphy's serve connected with Samuel Tana, who flicked it past LVC senior goalkeeper James Clements to give the Crusaders the early 1-0 lead.

Susquehanna would hold that lead into the halftime break, but the Dutchmen came out in the second half determined to get on the board. In the 66th minute, the Valley worked a corner opportunity, allowing junior Cam Alexander to serve it into the box. Eventually, freshman Alex Detweiler ripped a shot that looked goal-bound. Detweiler's shot rang off the crossbar into the foot of Fisher, who finished it past the Crusaders' keeper for the tying tally.

Susquehanna got off four shots in the two overtime periods compared to LVC's three, but neither team were able to post another marker and the game finished at 1-1 to send the Valley's record to 4-1-2 on the year.

Susquehanna held a 16-11 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Clements picked up 7 saves in goal to pick up the draw. Alexander, Detweiler, and senior Garth Stefan each tallied two shots apiece to lead the Dutchmen offense.

Next up for LVC is a meeting with Wilkes on Saturday at Herbert Field at 3 p.m.
