#8 Franklin & Marshall 1, Lebanon Valley 0

ANNVILLE, Pa. - #8 Franklin & Marshall scored a second-half goal to break a scoreless tie and beat the Dutchmen, 1-0, in non-conference field hockey play on Friday.

The Diplomats (5-0), who are currently ranked eighth in the NFHCA Top 20 poll, outshot the Dutchmen (1-4) by a 12-2 margin, but LVC kept it close with strong defensive play.

Maria Guarisco, who had threatened all game long, opened the scoring at 56:19 off a run from the left side of the field. The Diplomats were pressing throughout the game and were able to make the most of it.

LVC had two great scoring opportunites, one in each half. The first came off a hard shot from Lyndee Sheaffer that struck the goalkeeper's pads in the first half; in the second half, Laura James had terrific turnaround opportunity that was deflected away by Avery Koep. The Valley's defense was stalwart throughout the game as Chloe Baro made eight saves to keep the Dutchmen in the game, and Melissa Brosious made a great defensive save in the first half at the far post to keep the game scoreless.

Koep had two saves in the win for the Diplomats. F&M led 15-1 on penalty corner chances.

The Dutchmen will host Johns Hopkins Wednesday at Arnold Field.
