ANNVILLE, Pa. - Four first-half goals propelled Lebanon Valley to its first win of the year in a 4-1 decision over Swarthmore on Tuesday.
The Dutchmen (1-3) went ahead 2:36 into the game and never looked back, making their home debut a good one with a dominating first half.
Lyndee Sheaffer scored twice, and
Megan Arnst and
Lauren Mowery added strikes as LVC outshot the Garnet (1-4) 22-12.
Chloe Baro had a superb start, not allowing a goal and making six saves in 60:25 of play.
Sheaffer found the cage less than three minutes into the game, stuffing in a loose ball from
Molly Van Leuvan for her third goal of the season, and
Megan Arnst doubled the lead with her first career goal on a superb diving effort to get to
Caity Stevens' far post shot. Sheaffer added her second in the 25th minute, working a 2-on-1 breakaway with Arnst to make it 3-0, and she then assisted Mowery to beat the buzzer with 0.7 seconds remaining in the first half.
Swarthmore ruined the shutout on Nia Jones' goal in the 63rd minute. LVC's defense shut down every other Swarthmore chance, however, as both
Katrina Reppert and
Lauren Brumbach made defensive saves to complement Baro's play. LVC repelled nine Garnet penalty corners while drawing just one of their own.
Kendra Moll played 9:35 of relief for LVC. Ainsley Parrish (8 saves) and Gabby Capone (6 saves) split halves for the Garnet.
LVC will host #9 Franklin & Marshall Friday at 4:30 p.m.
