ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's volleyball team took both matches on Saturday afternoon to finish up their opening weekend at 3-1 in the Cortland Red Dragon Classic.
The Dutchmen took down Fredonia State in three sets, 25-20, 25-22, and 25-19 in the first game of the day. Defense and blocking were the story of the match as senior Jess Finlayson posted 18 digs and the team tallied six total blocks.
Sophomore Emily Sides and junior Kacey Mussleman helped out on defense with 12 and nine digs, respectively. At the net, freshman Greta Weidemoyer recorded one solo block and two assist blocks, while senior Sarah Godfrey notched three assist blocks.
From the attack, Weidemoyer led the way with 11 kills and Sides added six kills. Musselman also helped out in the passing department with 23 assists.
The second match of the day proved to be more of a challenge as it took four sets for the Dutchmen to take care of Baruch. After winning the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-13, the Valley dropped the fourth, 20-25. However, LVC dug deep and rallied for a 25-18 fourth-set win to take the match.
Weidemoyer was dominant again, leading the way with 13 kills and two service aces. Senior Megan Schoch tallied 12 kills and Confer added 10 at the net. Three players posted double-digit digs defensively with Musselman recording 15, sophomore Allie Garrett notching 12 and freshman Morgan Webb picking up 11.
Following the match, Weidemoyer was named to the Cortland Red Dragon Classic All-Tournament Team.
LVC returns to action on Wednesday for its home and conference opener against Alvernia at 7 p.m.
