ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior Sarah Dowhower of the Lebanon Valley women's soccer team slotted a rebound into the back of the net to send the Dutchmen to a season-opening 1-0 overtime victory on Saturday afternoon at Herbert Field.

Following a cross from freshman Sammy Bost, the ball dribbled through multiple York defenders and found the foot of Dowhower. The senior was able to finish in the far corner past York goalkeeper Melanie Glessner in the 8th minute of the first overtime period to seal the victory.

The game was dominated by the Valley statistically, holding a decisive 14-3 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in corners. The defense was stout, forcing senior goalkeeper Becca Sykes to make just two saves.

Individually, sophomore Rachel Cummings led the side in shots with three, while junior Amanda Douglass, Dowhower, senior Heather Tran, and freshman Johnna Garbrick posted two shots apiece.

For the Spartans, Glessner tallied one save, allowing the lone goal of the game. Beth Bunn, Taylor Folk, and Lauren Fowler each notched a shot for York.

LVC hits the road for four straight before their next home game on Sept. 14 against Susquehanna at 12 p.m. Next up is a trip to Misericordia on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. start.
