ANNVILLE, Pa. - A day before its season opener, Lebanon Valley has been picked to finish fourth in the Commonwealth Conference women's lacrosse preseason poll.
The Dutchmen, who start their season Wednesday by hosting Muhlenberg, are coming off a 9-8 campaign in 2012 that saw them qualify for both the CC and ECAC tournaments. They were chosen fourth behind defending champion Messiah - the unanimous top pick - and new member Stevenson and Elizabethtown, who were second and third, respectively. Alvernia, Widener, Lycoming, Albright, and new addition Hood round out the poll, in that order.
LVC returns every starter from last year's team, including national scoring leader and CC Player of the Year
Hana Krechel (72 G, 43 A) on attack and all-region midfielder
Bailey Benz (37 G, 14 A), along with two other all-CC picks: defender
Anna Pagels (56 GB, 23 CT) and midfielder
Mel Modrick (27 G, 6 A).
First-year head coach
Jackie Dando has the benefit of an experienced leadership group and the program's first true senior class as LVC enters its fourth season of play, led by senior captains
Allison McGinniss and
Suzanne Sullivan and juniors
Taylor Kruter and Modrick, who will mix in with a promising eight-member freshman class.
