Messiah College 4, Lebanon Valley College 0 (Commonwealth Conference Semifinal)
GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's soccer team couldn't create offense as they fell to Messiah in the Commonwealth Conference Semifinals, 4-0, on Thursday evening in Grantham.
With the win, the Falcons will host Stevenson in the CC Final on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Valley end their conference campaign with an overall record of 11-8-2 and will await a bid to participate in the ECAC Tournament.
Just over a minute into the contest, Messiah's Corrinne Wulf ran under the long pass, streaking down the left sideline with space. Wulf worked a cross into the middle that found the foot of Holly Burgard, who slotted it around the post on a sharp angle for the 1-0 advantage.
With Messiah controlling possession throughout the half, the Falcons found space along the right side with about 13 minutes to play. The Falcons' Kyele Bridel played a high arching cross into the box and Weaver got on the end of it as her header gave Messiah a two-goal lead.
The Falcons were dominant in the half, not allowing a shot until the 42nd minute and holding the 9-1 shot edge and a 6-0 advantage in shots on goal.
The wind became a factor as the second half began with LVC having the advantage with the breeze at its back. The Valley held much better possession in the opening minutes, but couldn't convert when it came to on-goal chances.
In the 63rd minute, Messiah extended its lead as the Falcons' Erin Sollenberger stepped in front of the clearing attempt by LVC senior goalkeeper
Becca Sykes and tapped it in the net off the ricochet for the third goal of the game. Messiah added another goal in the 78th minute to push the final to 4-0.
Sykes made five saves on the night, taking her seventh loss of the season, while senior
Lindi Crist had the lone shot for the Dutchmen on the night.
