No. 4 Messiah College 4, Lebanon Valley College 1
GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of No. 4 Messiah in Grantham on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons did not waste any time getting on the board as Brian Ramirez drilled a shot past LVC senior goalkeeper
James Clements just 5:48 into the contest for the game's opening goal. Messiah scored two more goals in the opening half and the game moved to halftime with the score, 3-0.
The Valley proved it was not giving up out of the break, though, as sophomore
Cam Alexander streaked down the middle of the field in the 53rd minute. Alexander worked his way into the 18 and slotted a laser into the top left corner to cut the Messiah lead to two at 3-1.
However, the Falcons' Jack Thompson connected with Joshua Wood and Mike Kovach in the 87th minute for the team's fourth goal of the game to push the final score to 4-1.
The Messiah defense was stifling all day giving up just five Dutchmen shot attempts compared to 26 for the Falcons. Additionally, Messiah held an 8-5 edge in corner-kick opportunities.
Alexander led the Valley attack with two shots, while junior
Kevin Doty and freshmen
Alex Detweiler and
Gabe Stasyszyn each tallied one shot apiece.
Clements made one save on the night, suffering the loss and sliding his and the team's record to 6-3-2 on the year.
Next up for LVC is a meeting with Lycoming on Tuesday afternoon at Herbert Field at 4 p.m.
