Women’s Soccer Drops Overtime Thriller to Elizabethtown

Box Score Women's Soccer
Elizabethtown College 2, Lebanon Valley College 1 (OT)

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's soccer team surrendered a goal in the 96th minute, falling to Elizabethtown, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Herbert Field.

Despite the initial shot from Elizabethtown's Lauren Berry ricocheting off the post, the Blue Jays' Sydney Nester was there for the rebound, sticking it in the back of the net for the gamewinner.

The opening goal of the game came off the foot of Berry in the 26th minute. Elizabethtown's Kacey Cerankowski streaked down the sideline and worked a cross to the top of the 18. Berry corralled the pass and finished to the low left side of LVC senior goalkeeper Becca Sykes for the 1-0 lead.

Just over 12 minutes later, freshman Sammy Bost tied the game at 1-1 on an exciting display of strength and quickness. Following an LVC through-ball, Bost used her speed to reach the ball and her strength to fend off two Blue Jay defenders before finishing to the low right side for the score.

Unfortunately for the Valley, however, that would be the only marker of the day as Elizabethtown's goal in overtime after a scoreless second stanza proved to be the winner.

The Blue Jays dominated the stats, leading the game in shots at 21-11 and corner-kick opportunities, 9-1. Sykes returned in goal, making six saves on the day in 96:54 of action.

With the loss, the Valley drops to 9-6-2 on the year and 4-3 in Commonwealth Conference play.

Next up for LVC is a trip to Chester on Tuesday for an important battle with Widener at 4 p.m.
