ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Lebanon Valley volleyball team bounced back from its loss to end day one with a pair of straight-set victories to finish off their participation in the Hartwick/Holiday Inn Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In the first match of the morning, the Dutchmen took care of Utica in three sets, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23.
Junior
Kayla Confer was the star of the match, leading the way offensively with 14 kills and at the service line with five aces. The Valley were solid at the net with six blocks including three block assists from senior
Sarah Godfrey and two block assists apiece from sophomore
Alli Quirk and junior
Kacey Musselman.
Musselman led the way defensively with 10 digs, while senior
Jess Finlayson picked up eight balls in the back line.
In LVC's final match of the tournament, the Valley took down the host Hartwick in three sets, 26-24, 25-18, 25-12.
The second match was a total team effort as head coach Wayne Perry received contributions from many of his key players in the win.
Offensively, Confer led the way again with 10 kills, while freshman
Taylor Troutman and Musselman added seven and six kills, respectively. Additionally, Godfrey put away five kills on just eight swings with no errors.
Sides and Finlayson each tallied two service aces from the line and sophomore
Allie Garrett dug up 11 digs in the back. Finlayson and Sides also notched seven digs apiece for the LVC defense.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, Musselman was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
With the sweep, LVC moves to 24-4 on the year with an all-important match-up at Stevenson coming up on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
