Box Score Field Hockey
#11 Messiah 2, Lebanon Valley 1

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Two quick second-half goals by #11 Messiah spoiled a superb defensive effort by Lebanon Valley in a 2-1 setback on Saturday.

The Dutchmen (8-7, 4-1 CC) lost for the first time in Commonwealth Conference play despite holding a 1-0 lead for more than a half hour after Lauren Brumbach's quick opening goal.  The Falcons (11-2, 5-0 CC) dominated the game with 31 shots, but Chloe Baro's career-high 18 saves kept the Valley in the game.

LVC drew an early penalty corner and converted when Brumbach blasted in her eighth goal of the season straight off Melissa Brosious' injection at 2:44. The Dutchmen held the line until halftime, fending off 19 first-half shots and six corners by the hosts.

The dam finally broke in the 41st minute when Moriah Pfautz redirected Rachel Cox's pass to level the game at 1-1, and Brooke Sands took the lead less than two minutes later from Pfautz.

Messiah held a 31-5 shots advantage and led 9-1 on corners. Brumbach recorded a defensive save to go with her goal, while Lyndee Sheaffer led LVC with two shots. The game was LVC's eighth one-goal decision of the season.

The Dutchmen visit Arcadia on Wednesday night.
