Lebanon Valley College 2, Stevenson University 1 (OT)
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior
Sarah Dowhower headed in the overtime winner in the 96th minute to send the Lebanon Valley women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Stevenson on Tuesday evening.
Off the throw on the right side of the field, senior
Heather Tran sent a cross in front of the goal, finding the head of sophomore
Rachel Cummings. Cummings fooled the Stevenson goalkeeper as her header, instead of going toward goal, went sideways right to Dowhower, who finished in the open net for the winner.
The goal is Dowhower's third game-winning tally of the season. The Harrisburg, Pa. native also tallied gamewinners in the opening game against York and the tilt with King's on Sept. 28.
The Dutchmen opened the scoring in the game as junior
Amanda Douglass' cross connected with senior
Katie Deardorff in the 41st minute to give the Valley the 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
LVC held that lead for the majority of the second half until Stevenson posted the tying tally in the 82nd minute. Stevenson's Mackenzie Calhoun and Mandy Marston picked up assists as Alexis Siejack sent a header past LVC freshman goalkeeper
Taylor Reinhold to tie it up at 1-1.
Dowhower's winning tally pushed Lebanon Valley's record to 8-4-2 on the year, while Stevenson slides to 9-5-1. Reinhold has not lost in net since taking over for the injured senior
Becca Sykes, picking up her third straight win making four saves.
The Valley certainly took advantage of their limited opportunities as they were outshot, 16-7, and were only able to work one corner compared to Stevenson's eight. Deardorff led the attack with three shots, while senior
Lindi Crist and freshman
Johnna Garbrick recorded two shots apiece.
Next up for the Valley is a trip to Reading on Saturday to take on Albright at 5:30 p.m.
