ANNVILLE, Pa. – Freshmen Johnna Garbrick and Laura Zimmerman connected on the gamewinning goal as the Lebanon Valley women's soccer team held on for a 2-1 victory over Alvernia on Sunday afternoon at Herbert Field.

With just over five minutes to go in the first half, Zimmerman made a run down the left side of the pitch, approaching the 18. The rookie fed it across the box to the foot of Garbrick, who, with a moment of hesitation, shot it in the right side of the net for what turned out to be the winner. The goal gave the pair of freshmen their first career points.

Senior Lindi Crist was the other goal scorer for the Dutchmen, hitting a beautiful bending free kick from the top of the 18 in the ninth minute to give the Valley the early advantage. Alvernia answered with an unassisted finish from Hannah Mallets to tie it up in the 27th minute, but Garbrick's tally was the end of the scoring as LVC worked a scoreless second half for the win.

Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Reinhold picked up her second win of the year, allowing one goal with four saves. Junior Amanda Douglass led the LVC offense with six shots, while senior Heather Tran added four shots and Crist threatened with three. The Valley held a 25-6 advantage in shots and worked seven corner-kick opportunities compared to three for the Crusaders.

Next up for the Valley is a road matchup with Stevenson on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
