#4 Messiah 2, Lebanon Valley 1

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley pushed #4 Messiah to the brink before Rachel Cox's later winner gave the visitors a 2-1 win on Saturday, in the first-ever night game at Arnold Field.

The Dutchmen (5-5, 1-1 CC) played tough defense in front of an electric home crowd, carrying a 1-1 tie deep into the game against the Falcons (7-2, 2-0 CC) despite being outshot 22-7 overall and 13-2 in the second half.

The game was the first home night contest in LVC athletics history; the field hockey team moved to Arnold Field after a summer renovation installed FieldTurf and lights at the stadium.

Caitlin Vasey scored the opener for LVC, and Heather Quirk leveled later in the first half for Messiah.

Chloe Baro was superb, making 11 saves for LVC. Molly Gebrosky stopped four for Messiah, which held a whopping 15-3 advantage on penalty corners.

LVC resisted early Falcon pressure before taking control of the game, and Vasey struck first as she moved around a defender and slammed a shot off the far post and in to put her team up 1-0 at 22:49.

Quirk equalized quickly, taking Sara Kongkatong's pass at 25:12 and converting it off a bounce to make it 1-1.

LVC's defense held tight to the end, but it was Rachel Cox who picked the ball of Baro's pads and put it in at 59:55 for the winner. LVC had two good last-ditch efforts as Lauren Brumbach hit the post under two minutes, then had her putback saved.

Lebanon Valley will visit Widener on Tuesday before returning home to face Albright on Oct. 6.
