ANNVILLE, Pa. – Kelly Hess nailed an 82nd minute equalizer to close an 0-1 deficit and Lebanon Valley continued a front of stringent defense to hold on for a 1-1 tie at home against Misericordia Wednesday.

The game wasn't tight for a lack of shots. LVC (7-1-1) held a 31-21 shot advantage through a match that reached double overtime.

Jake Herron was pulled down on a foul in the seventh minute that gave the Dutchmen a golden opportunity with a penalty kick taken by Andrew Cooper, but he was denied. Misericordia (5-4-1) scored 12 minutes later on a 30-yard boot by sophomore Rob Wiacek. The Cougars were able to maintain the lead through the first period, despite eight shots taken by the Dutchmen.

LVC took 14 shots in the second period. Hess equalized the game off a ball that was crossed in by Herron and shot by Cooper. Hess was able to rebound the ball off the goalie's hands and poke a shot into the far left for his second goal of the season.

James Clements played 110 minutes with a season-high 11 saves, including four in overtime.

The Dutchmen open conference play at home Saturday against Albright. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
