ANNVILLE, Pa. – The search for a home win continues as Lebanon Valley was stunned in five sets by Widener Wednesday.
After dropping the first set, the Dutchmen gained momentum in second and third set wins but were ultimately doomed by negative attacking and effective blocking in the final sets of the match.
Kellsie Groff led the attack for LVC (7-9, 1-3) with 16 total kills, including eight in the team's two successful sets. She finished with 13 digs for the double-double – a feat matched by
Kacey Musselman who finished with 41 assists and 17 digs.
Musselman's night was made more impressive by her six service aces – setting her new career high.
Jess Finlayson had a sharp night on the back row with a season-high 26 digs. The total ranks 10
th in individual match history in the LVC record books, tying four former players.
LVC's downfall came in its declining attack, which fell to a -.054 in set four and -.250 in set five. Widener (9-8, 2-1) recorded four of its eight total blocks in the final two sets for the win.
The Dutchmen will play at the Wheaton Thunder Invitational in Illinois this weekend with matches scheduled against Cornell College, Dubuque, North Central, and Wheaton.
