Stevenson 3, Lebanon Valley 0 (17, 17, 20)
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley couldn't get past solid hitting and a big blocking night by Stevenson, falling 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) in Commonwealth Conference play on Thursday.
The Dutchmen (6-5, 1-2 CC) hit just .017 for the match to the Mustangs' (9-1, 3-0 CC) .204. Stevenson had four solo blocks and 12 block assists, led by Megan Miller's 2/5 match.
Megan Schoch led LVC with five kills, and
Sarah Godfrey,
Steph Klunk, and
Kellsie Groff had four apiece..
Emily Sides had 12 assists and 10 digs, and
Ally Stengel also added 10 digs.
Jess Finlayson led the defense with 11 digs.
Stevenson's Christine Isenberg led all players with 11 kills, followed by Avery Gabbard's nine. Jessica Gieselman had a terrific match for SU with 24 assists, five kills, and six digs to go with a solo and assist block.
LVC struggled in the first set with six kills to just 10 errors as the Mustangs led the entire way. The Dutchmen tightened things up in the second set, taking an 11-10 lead on a long serving run by
Sarah Godfrey, but Stevenson controlled the rest of the set with a 10-5 run on the way to a 25-17 win.
Things seemed to finally turn LVC's way in the third set as a 4-0 spurt mid-set gave the Dutchmen a 17-12 lead. Out of a timeout, though, Gabbard held service for five points to tie the set, and dominant hitting with six kills during an 8-3 run to end the set closed it out at 25-20.
LVC will play in the Franklin & Marshall Scramble this weekend.
