Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team opened its season with a loss in the opening match of the Gettysburg Cup Friday night. The Dutchmen were bitten 1-0 by the host team.
Sami Young played the entire game in goal for the Dutchmen (0-1). She made three saves but allowed the game winner to freshman striker Melissa Seidner in the 60
th minute of the match.
Taylor Saraiva and
Sarah Wannlund took two shots each, but the Dutchmen were outshot 11-9 as a team.
Nicole Snyder,
Dani Douglass, and
Lindi Crist each played the full 90 minutes in the field.
Gettysburg (1-0) got five shots out of junior midfielder Tobi Goss, including one of Young's stops. Seidner finished with a pair of shots. Freshman Eliza Gray made three stops in goal for the Bullets and played the entire game for the win.
These two teams share striking similarities in that they both reached their respective conference's finals last season and both were picked second in their conference's preseason coaches poll. As such, spectators got a well-balanced game between highly driven teams.
The Dutchmen draw St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday at 4 p.m. They open at home Wednesday against Misericordia.
