Second Half Surge Puts Scranton Past LVC

ANNVILLE, Pa.
- A second-half surge by the University of Scranton led the Royals by Lebanon Valley, 17-9, in women's lacrosse action at Arnold Field on Saturday.

The Dutchmen (3-4) kept the game close at halftime, but the Royals (6-2) outscored LVC 9-3 in the second half to break open the 8-6 game.

Hana Krechel had four goals and an assist to lead LVC, and Taylor Kruter added two free-position strikes. Three players scored four or more for Scranton, including Jill DePaolera's five and four each from Emily Goss and Kerry Sullivan.

Scranton outshot LVC 35-24, including 17-9 in the second half, and used a big midfield effort to hold LVC to just 6-for-22 on clear attempts. LVC led draw controls 15-13.

Playing in a steady, cold rain, Scranton raced out to a 6-3 lead before Krechel and Kruter scored to cut it to a one goal game. DePaolera and Goss re-established a three-goal lead, but Krechel scored inside a minute left in the first half to make it an 8-6 game at the break.

Kaela Mahon and Krechel traded goals to start the second half, but a five-goal run by Scranton - holding LVC scoreless for more than 12 minutes - was decisive, taking a 14-7 lead that LVC couldn't make up. Anna Pagels and Bailey Benz added late goals for the Dutchmen.

Corrinne Palombo and Erica Ameigh split halves; Palombo made nine saves in the first half, and Ameigh had five stops in the second. Kathleen Smart had six saves for the win.

LVC visits Misericordia on Thursday at 4 p.m.
