ANNVILLE, Pa. - A ten-goal barrage by Susquehanna broke open a tie game as the Crusaders dropped Lebanon Valley, 16-7, at Arnold Field on Wednesday.
The Dutchmen (3-3) were held scoreless for more than a half hour as undefeated Susquehanna (6-0) reeled off 10 unanswered goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half and 21 minutes of the second, turning a 3-3 game into a decisive victory.
Allison McGinniss scored twice to lead LVC's offense, and
Suzanne Sullivan,
Hana Krechel,
Taylor Kruter,
Jenny Simensky, and
Mel Modrick each added goals. Erin Dyer led SU with four and Mereditch Crane scored a hat trick; Emma Ehler and Michelle McGinniss, sister of LVC's Allison, had two goals and two assists each.
Turnovers were a big factor in LVC's inability to generate second-half offense as the Dutchmen gave away 31 balls and went just 15-for-25 on clear attempts. LVC was held to just seven second-half shots as SU led 38-17 overall. The Crusaders led draw controls 10-5 in the second behind nine from McGinniss.
Erica Ameigh earned her first start of the season and made 13 saves, while Emily Stankaitis earned the win with 10 stops, including seven in the first half.
LVC led 2-0 early on thanks to goals by Simensky and Sullivan, and then came back to tie it on Kruter's feed from
Bailey Benz after a 3-0 SU run.
But the Crusaders clamped down, controlled the draw, and would hold the hosts scoreless for 31:44, scoring 10 goals in that span until McGinniss' first strike with 8:18 left in the second half. Modrick and Krechel added late goals, and Krechel assisted on McGinniss' second in the final minute.
LVC will host Scranton on Saturday at 1 p.m.
