Commonwealth Conference Final
Lebanon Valley 0, Messiah 1
GRANTHAM, Pa. – Though much of the match was a battle in the midfield, Lebanon Valley was beaten 1-0 in the Commonwealth Conference finals at Messiah Sunday afternoon.
Messiah (19-0-1) scored its game winner in the 19th minute when tournament MVP Brian Ramirez scored off a pass from Jack Thompson outside the box.
LVC (13-5-2) was uncharacteristically outshot 18-3, but the final shot of the match made some noise. With
James Clements up from goal for the final 40 seconds of play, the Dutchmen were able to make a push towards the goal. Messiah was called offsides with nine seconds to play. Clements kicked the ball into a complete scrum, where
Kyle Fronk was able to take one final stab at a goal. His shot hit the crossbar at the buzzer, but it was a feat to get a shot off at all.
The numbers don't tell the full story of the match, as LVC played competitively around the midfield. Led by
Kelly Hess, who seemed to win everything in the air, the Dutchmen made every effort to create opportunities for themselves.
The Dutchmen will now wait to receive word on Monday about their postseason fate with either an NCAA at-large or ECAC bid. This season marks the team's best overall record and the first season in which the Dutchmen were able to reach conference finals.
