ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley fought to contain Albright and maintained ball control throughout a 2-0 shutout Wednesday in the quarterfinal round of the Commonwealth Conference Championships.
The Dutchmen (11-6-1) advance to the semifinals, which are to be held at Messiah Friday at a time to be determined. The two squads met last year in the finals, where the Falcons topped the Dutchmen, 5-1.
On Wednesday, LVC took its lead in the 35
th minute on a goal to the far post from the top of the box by
Nicole Snyder. Snyder converted her 13
th goal of the season off a 10-yard pass from
Heather Tran.
Snyder played a part in the team's final goal in the 88
th minute by drawing the foul that set
Stevi Laird up for the penalty kick. Laird booted a goal to the high right to give LVC additional confidence heading into the final stretch of the match.
Similarly to its regular-season match with Albright (10-8), LVC held a dominant 21-3 advantage in shots. Snyder led with five shots, followed by
Lindi Crist and Laird, who each took four shots.
Sami Young made two saves to earn the win. Kelly Burian, her counterpart on the Lions' side, made 11 saves and showed great range in the net.
