ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Behind
Cam Alexander's 13th goal of the season, Lebanon Valley battled to a 1-1 draw at Elizabethtown Saturday night.
Needing a result to keep pace in the Commonwealth Conference playoff hunt, the Dutchmen (11-3-2, 4-2-1 CC) salvaged a point in a close back-and-forth match with the Blue Jays (7-6-3, 5-1-1 CC). While not clinching a playoff berth yet, LVC solidified its position tied with Tuesday's opponent, Widener, in third place on 13 points. Both teams are four points clear of Alvernia and Arcadia with two games to play.
The teams were even all throug the game, leveling on shots (16-16) and close on corners (6-5 for LVC). Each had three chances during overtime.
James Clements was excellent for LVC, making six saves including two flying stops in overtime. Eric Carr was equally outstanding for the Jays, making 10 saves.
Alexander's 47th minute goal put LVC ahead 1-0 as the freshman volleyed a short corner tapped between
Greg Figueroa and
Travis Miller.
E-town equalized in the 67th minute when Kristopher Davis finished off Zach Lee's corner header to knot it up.
In overtime, LVC had a pair of good chances in the second period as Figueroa and Hess put balls on goal, and Clements saved the game when he punched Lee's bid out with five minutes left. Clements again came up big off an E-town corner, and LVC couldn't get a shot off as they drew a corner at the buzzer.
LVC will host Widener on Tuesday with a chance to clinch a playoff berth for both teams.
