Lebanon Valley 2, Stevenson 1
ANNVILLE, Pa. -
Caitlin Vasey's goal with 2:38 remaining in the game was what LVC needed to get by Stevenson, 2-1, Saturday night at Arnold Field.
The Dutchmen (9-5, 5-1 CC) clinched a Commonwealth Conference playoff berth with the victory, and were given all they could handle by the Mustangs (6-9, 2-2 CC), who led for most of the game.
Bridget Monighan's penalty stroke conversion at 42:22 tied the game after a first-half Stevenson goal, and it stayed 1-1 into the waning moments before Vasey's late winner.
LVC led 16-6 on shots, including 10-2 in the second, and certainly wasn't without scoring chances as it held a 15-4 penalty corner advantage.
Chloe Baro made five saves to earn the win.
Stevenson's Caitlin Dempsey put the visitors on the board at 15:32, taking off on a solo run and beating Baro to the right for her seventh goal of the season.
The score stayed that way until 43rd minute when
Kelsey Miller was taken out by goalkeeper Katie Cavanaugh on a breakaway to draw a stroke; Monighan slammed it in to level the game at 1-1. LVC drew another stroke moments later, but
Lauren Brumbach's attempt sailed high.
The Dutchmen were knocking on the door all period long, but it came down to a hard shot by Miller that was deflected between Cavanaugh's legs by Vasey, putting LVC on top with 2:38 remaining.
Cavanaugh made three saves in the loss for SU; Katelynn DeFiore played the final 2:38 as a kicking back.
LVC will end its regular-season home slate Tuesday against Arcadia.
