GRANTHAM, Pa. - Lebanon Valley was dealt its first loss in Commonwealth Conference play on Wednesday night as Messiah came back from a set down to win, 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23).
The Dutchmen (10-4, 2-1 CC) went up a set but hit just .146 for the match as the Falcons (11-4, 3-0 CC) went to the top of the CC standings with the win.
Kacey Musselman recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 45 assists and 10 digs, while
Jamie Hawk led LVC with 14 kills to hit .324 and
Nicole Barra added 10 kills.
Kellsie Groff filled her stat line with seven kills, three aces, 10 digs, and a pair of solo blocks, while
Sarah Godfrey had nine kills and two blocks.
Lauren Rees led Messiah with a match-high 19 kills along with 14 assists, and Barbara Fretz added 10 kills and 12 digs while setter Jessica Geib put up 40 assists and 17 digs.
The Dutchmen rallied back from 15-10 in the first set to tie it at 20-20 before going on to win 25-23, but Messiah led the majority of the second and third sets to go up 2-1. In the decisive fourth set, LVC ran out to a big 12-5 advantage, but an 11-4 Messiah run tied the set at 16-16 before the Falcons took the lead for good on Rees' kill at 20-18 on the way to a 25-23 win.
LVC will visit nationally-ranked Eastern this Saturday to take part in the MAC Crossover, playing FDU-Florham and the host Eagles.
