Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. - A pair of Gettysburg College goals wrapped around halftime were enough to lift the Bullets past Lebanon Valley College on Friday in the 2011 season opener at Herbert Field.
Chris Hall scored LVC's lone goal.
After Hall's 68th-minute goal, the Dutchmen (0-1) were denied a late chance at an equalizer when
Andrew Cooper's point-blank try was saved by Connor Darrell with a minute remaining.
Hall's goal came off a
Kelly Hess setpiece from the top of the box, but the score couldn't spark a comeback run as the Bullets (1-0) held LVC without a shot until Cooper's last-minute attempt.
Gettysburg's James Rice scored just before the half on a fantastic solo run into the box, and Eric Hynes made it 2-0 in the 48th minute after playing Tyler Shaffer's pass through perfectly and finding space in the box.
Despite a 17-9 disadvantage in shots, LVC was not without its chances, including two other scoring chances for Cooper and a close-in sliding try for Hall that was deflected away.
Josh Lineaweaver made seven saves in the losing effort; Darrell stopped five for Gettysburg. LVC led 4-1 on corners.
