ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley won in five sets for a remarkable seventh time in 10 outings, holding off a tough Cabrini team 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-13) on the opening night of the LVC Quad.
The Dutchmen (8-2) improved to 7-0 in five-set matches this season thanks to a balanced attack that included 15 kills by
Jamie Hawk and 13-kill performances from freshmen
Kayla Confer and
Krystal Wirey.
Freshman setter
Kacey Musselman was superb, crafting a career-best 62 assists and serving up a key ace in the fifth set. Confer hit .521 for the match with her 13 kills, and
Kellsie Groff added 10 kills on the attack.
Angela Kuperavage led LVC defensively with 31 digs, and Groff tacked on 16.
Cabrini's Danielle Carrozza led all players with 22 kills, while Kristy Riley had 16 digs and four aces to lead a terrific serving game for the defending CSAC champion and 2010 NCAA participant Cavaliers (7-7).
In the nightcap match, Mary Washington defeated City College of New York, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-9).
LVC will take on CCNY to start Saturday at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mary Washington at 1:30 p.m.
