READING, Pa. - Lebanon Valley's successful sophomore season came to end Tuesday night as the Dutchmen were eliminated from the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs with a 19-6 loss at Alvernia.
The Dutchmen finish the season at 8-8 after qualifying for the postseason for the first time ever, in just their second season of varsity play. Alvernia (11-6) will advance to play Messiah in Thursday's semifinal.
Hana Krechel scored four of LVC's six goals, leaving her with a new season record total of 71 goals.
Lindsey Buckman and
Kristin Clift also had goals.
Sarah George led Alvernia with four goals, and Allison Bainbridge had a hat trick to go with four assists. Five other Crusaders scored two goals, as well.
Alvernia controlled the midfield all evening long, winning 18 of 27 draws and holding LVC to just 13-for-23 on clear attempts. That set up a commanding 44-16 shot advantage for the Crusaders.
The Dutchmen hung in after a slow start left it at 1-1 on goals by Samantha Landis and Krechel, but Alvernia slowly pulled away to go up 6-3 midway through the half before ripping off five unanswered to end the half with an 11-3 lead.
Alvernia tacked on two more to start the second before Krechel hit two from the 8-meter arc, but the Crusaders put the game away with another big run, scoring six in a row and holding LVC scoreless for more than 20 minutes until Clift's consolation goal with 2:50 remaining.
Jennifer Czarnecki made nine saves in the win for Alvernia.
Erica Ameigh took the loss with two saves in 15:05, while
Corinne Palombo stopped 12 in 34:44 of relief with
Rachel Denny playing the final 10 minutes.
