ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley outshot Alvernia 26-6 in a 3-0 shutout in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals Thursday, advancing to their first CC final since 2003.
The Dutchmen will travel to #1 Messiah on Saturday at 5 p.m. in a bid for their first-ever conference crown. Messiah was a 3-0 winner over Albright in the other semifinal.
Heather Tran opened the scoring in the 18th minute, pushing a quick kick through a slim opening to Alvernia keeper Lindsey Neubauer's left. The goal was Tran's ninth of the season and came off a feed from
Jordan Nendza.
Lindi Crist then nailed a corner kick at 18:50 in the first.
Brittany Flood deflected the ball to
Nicole Snyder, who put the Dutchmen up 2-0 on her 18th goal of the season.
Crist was also instrumental in the third and final goal--a goal that took two tries.
Sarah Dowhower received the ball in front of the Alvernia goal in the at 77:11. Neubauer blocked her first attempt but Dowhower snuck it by on her second shot. The goal was Dowhower's second of the season.
Crist's two assists were a season high and brought her total to three. Tran took a season-high nine shots over the course of the game.
Neubauer is listed as a midfielder but made her fifth start in goal for the Crusaders. She made nine saves.
Sami Young was fantastic in goal for the Dutchmen, who recorded a fourth consecutive shutout. The team's scoreless defense actually extended over 22 minutes back into the game against Messiah on Oct. 15, giving LVC a 382:39 streak. Young started each of the five games and played all but 45 minutes.
