Volleyball Loses Two at Scranton Tri-Match

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley volleyball team battled back from an 0-2 deficit only to lose in the fifth set to Scranton Saturday.

The Dutchmen (20-8) have positives to take from the match. They hit .333 in the first set, despite picking up the 20-25 loss.

In the two sets they won, they did it in convincing fashion. First, in a 25-18 third set. Then in a 25-8 fourth. They hit .423 in the fourth set.

Kellsie Groff had a standout day for the Dutchmen attack, finishing with a team-best 17 kills. Jamie Hawk and Nicole Barra each finished with 12.

Sasha Birosik finished with five service aces--the highest individual total achieved by an LVC player this season.

Angela Kuperavage led the defense with 22 digs. Four other players reached double-digit digs in the match: Barra (14), Birosik (14), Groff (12) and Kacey Musselman (11).

The team finished with seven total blocks.



Hawk had a more characteristic match against Gallaudet, leading the Dutchmen with 14 kills and a .357 hitting percentage.

The team hit just .186 in the match, but kept it close enough in the first set to force Gallaudet to 27 points.

Kayla Confer had nine kills in the match for LVC, while Steph Klunk finished with seven.

Kuperavage again led the defense in digs with 13. Birosik had 12, and Barra had another 10.

LVC plays at Widener Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the Commonwealth Conference semifinals.
