CHESTER, Pa. - Widener University jumped out to an 11-2 lead, including scoring the game's first six goals, as it defeated Lebanon Valley College 20-10 in MAC women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
The Dutchmen (4-2, 2-1 MAC) had a three-game win streak snapped with the loss.
Hana Krechel had three goals, three assists, and seven draw controls, while
Allison McGinniss and
Suzanne Sullivan each scored a pair.
Widener held a 38-22 shots advantage as they held LVC to just one goal over the opening 26 minutes. Krechel scored at 13:!6 of the first before Sullivan converted a Krechel pass with four minutes left in the first, but Widener had already netted 10 by that point as they led 11-2 at the break.
LVC scored three straight to open the second half with goals by McGinniss,
Amanda Cubbage, and
Rachel Murkey, but Widener answered with a five-goal run to take a commanding 16-5 lead.
The Dutchmen pared the lead down somewhat with their own five-goal run that included goals by Sullivan, two from Krechel, McGinniss, and
Kristin Clift, but the Pride finished the game out with a four-goal spurt over the final 4:38.
Erica Ameigh made 13 saves for LVC, while Linda Salcedo stopped eight to pick up the win for Widener.
LVC will visit Messiah on Thursday at 4 p.m.
