UTICA, N.Y. - Despite holding Utica scoreless in the third period, the Lebanon Valley hockey team fell, 6-5, to the Pioneers Friday evening at the Memorial Auditorium. Freshman Daniel Dempsey led LVC with two goals, while classmate William Brown notched three assists and junior Brad Surdam posted two helpers.
The Dutchmen made a strong push in the third period, with a three goal effort, but Utica's lead proved to be too much to overcome. Daniel Dempsey opened the final frame with a shorthanded goal and added a power play tally just over two minutes later. Junior Colin Thompson recorded his first goal of the season at 19:21 to pull the game within one, but Utica's defense held LVC for the remainder of the game.
Lebanon Valley opened the game with a goal from senior Anthony Longo at 1:15, with assists from William Brown and Cole Bell. Utica responded with three-straight tallies in the first to gain the advantage. 
Sophomore Josh Goellner attempted a comeback in the second, scoring 2:34 into the period with freshmen Ilester Little and Tim Harris assisting on the tally. Utica added three more goals to take a 6-2 lead into the second intermission. 
Junior Rich Drazin recorded 28 saves in goal for Lebanon Valley, including 13 in the second period. 
Utica held the advantage in shots, 34-21, including a game-high 16 in the second period, and both teams posted a power play goal in the contest.
Brad Surdam leads the team with 14 points, while Daniel Dempsey and William Brown are tied with 13 points. Dempsey has a team-high 11 goals and Brown has a team-best 11 assists this season.
Lebanon Valley continues play with Utica Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
