ANNVILLE, Pa. -
Dan Dunkelberger turned in a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double to lift Lebanon Valley over Elizabethtown, 79-74, in a must-win game for both teams in the playoff race.
The Dutchmen (10-13, 6-6 CC) moved into a tie for the fourth and final playoff berth with Elizabethtown (14-8, 6-6 CC), a half-game ahead of Alvernia, who lost in double-overtime to Albright. LVC still has to play Messiah and Alvernia this week to end the regular season.
Dunkelberger, playing his final home game on senior night, ended up with his fifth consecutive double-double that included a pair of game-icing free throws with 14 seconds left.
Jordan Stewart and
Zach Kebetz each scored 15 off the bench, and
Joe Meehan had eight points and seven assists.
Mike Church led E-town with 16 points, and Keith Fogel added 12. Joe Flanagan and Bryan Harrity each had 10.
An entertaining back-and-forth game saw both teams shoot exceptionally well in the first half, with LVC shooting 57.1 percent (on the way to 54 percent for the game) and E-town drilling 59.4 percent in the first half.
However, the Blue Jays shot just 8-for-29 (27.9 percent) from the floor in the second frame as LVC erased a seven-point lead with a big swing midway through the half.
An 8-0 run by the Dutchmen took the lead away from E-town, and a pair of foul shots by
Cameron Prince put LVC ahead for good with 12:42 to go in the half.
That started another 5-0 run to go up 58-53, and LVC held on from there despite the Blue Jays keeping the game close. They moved within three in the final minute, but foul shots by Kebetz, Stewart, and Dunkelberger sealed the win.
LVC will head to Messiah Thursday for a make-up game at 7 p.m.
