Box Score
READING, Pa. -
Jocelyn Novak became the fastest player in NCAA Division III history to reach 100 goals, and
Caitlin Vasey scored twice with an assist to reach 100 career points as #1 Lebanon Valley blanked Alvernia, 4-0, to clinch a Commonwealth Conference playoff berth.
Novak's 33rd goal of the season came in the 28th minute, and it made her the sixth player in D-III history to score 100 goals. She is the second to do it as a junior after Lynchburg's Allie Weir, and will now chase the Commonwealth Conference record of 111 held by Messiah's Danae Chambers before Weir's NCAA record of 131 goals.
Vasey scored the game's opening goal at 13:38 from
Allison Bicher to reach 100 points, becoming the 10th player in LVC history to reach the milestone (and just the second sophomore, along with Novak).
The NCAA's assist leader then dished out her 22nd of the year on Novak's goal before scoring her second at 29:19.
Jess Cox tacked on her first goal of the year just before the hour off a
Kelsey Miller assist to finish the scoring.
The Dutchmen (15-1, 4-1 CC) outshot the Crusaders (9-8, 3-3 CC) 19-6, but corners were even at 8-8.
Christine Poletti made three saves - and Miller had a defensive stop - to earn the shutout. Abby Eby stopped 10 to keep Alvernia in it.
LVC will head to Elizabethtown on Tuesday afternoon.
