GENESEO, N.Y. - Lebanon Valley College could not power back after allowing SUNY-Geneseo to take a 3-0 lead in the first period, falling to the Blue Knights, 6-2.
Brad Surdam had a goal and an assist in the loss for LVC for his team-leading sixth and seventh points. His shorthanded goal at 6:17 of the second period was LVC's first goal on the PK of the season. Wesley Landsem scored his first collegiate goal late in the third period from Surdam and William Brown for the Flying Dutchmen's other goal.
After playing the first half of the opening period scoreless, SUNY-Geneseo capitalized on a power play at 12:07 when Stefan Decosse finished off a setup from Jimmy Powers and Jake Yard to break the tie. 3:01 later, Corbin Rosmar doubled the lead from Kaz Iwamoto. David Arduin scored what proved to be the game-winner at 17:46 from Decosse and Ryan Bulach.
In the second period, Surdam got LVC on the board with his shorthanded tally. That momentum was short-lived, as the Blue Knights bounced right back with a pair of goals 38 seconds apart in the eighth minute of the period. Jonathan Reddick struck first at 7:06 from Iwamoto and Sebastian Panetta, followed by a Clint Olson marker at 7:44 from Andrew Rygiel. Geneseo finished the period with a Panetta goal at 13:20.
In the third, LVC had trouble mounting a comeback while killing off a pair of penalties. Still the Dutchmen managed to pepper Michael Battaglia with 13 shots in the final stanza, finding twine at 19:55 of the stick of Landsem.
The two sides are back on the ice Jan. 9 at 3 p.m.
