ANNVILLE, Pa. - It's becoming a yearly tradition. For the past five Novembers, one of college field hockey's best rivalries has renewed as national powers Lebanon Valley and Messiah have faced off for the Commonwealth Conference field hockey championship. This Saturday will continue the series as #7 LVC heads to #1 Messiah at 1 p.m. for the CC Final.
Admission for all Commonwealth Conference tournament games is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. Children under the age of six are admitted free of charge.
Noting LVC
The Dutchmen enter the game at 17-2 and ranked seventh in the latest NFHCA/Kookaburra Top 20 poll ... LVC beat Elizabethtown, 5-1, in the semifinals on Wednesday with three quick second-half goals shutting the door on the Blue Jays ...
Shelly Lobach became LVC's all-time assists leader in that game with two goals and an assist ...
Caitlin Vasey dished out three assists, and
Jocelyn Novak scored LVC's last two goals in the win ... Novak now has eight postseason goals in five career games ... Novak has scored in 11 consecutive games and has 28 goals this season ... All of LVC's starters played the full 70 minutes against E-town ... Vasey has 10 assists in her last five games, and seven in the last two after tying a program record with four against Widener in the regular-season finale ... Lebanon Valley is shooting for its fifth consecutive and 15 overall NCAA appearance.

The Falcons are an undefeated 18-0 and enter ranked #1 in the nation ... They beat Widener, 8-0, in the semifinals ... Messiah beat LVC, 4-1, at home earlier this season with a late three-goal burst after a 1-1 tied carried deep into the second half ... The Falcons have two 20-goal scorers in Kourtney Ehly (23 g, 10 a) and Katie Love (22 g, 10 a) ... Love had a hat trick against Widener in the semis, and Ehly added two ... Ashley Mowery has a 0.76 GAA and .817 save percentage ... Messiah has nine shutouts this year ... The Falcons have not allowed a goal in 254:04, since a 6-2 win over #12 TCNJ on Oct. 24 ... In that span, they have outscored opponents 34-2 in four games.
Noting the Championship
LVC and Messiah have met in the title game each of the past five years, with LVC winning once, in 2006 ... LVC's win in 2006, the last of its six titles, came with a 2-0 win over Messiah at home ... Last year's game was a one-goal affair, a 2-1 win by Messiah ... The Falcons were also ranked #1 in the nation for last year's game. LVC was also #7 at the time ... It is the second time in three years that either LVC or Messiah has come in undefeated. In 2007, LVC was 19-0 before losing to Messiah in the final, 3-1. Messiah is 18-0 this year ... LVC is making its 15th appearance overall in either the MAC or CC title game; 11 of the last 12 have been against Messiah.
NCAA Selection Monday
While the winner of Saturday's game gets an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, the loser will also be likely to get in with an at-large bid. The field will be announced on NCAA.com on Monday morning at approximately 9 a.m.
